Steven Cooper is a psychotherapist and psychoanalyst in full time practice. He is also a couples therapist and a family business consultant. He is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. He is a Clinical Professor in Psychiatry, College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University. He is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor at New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychoanalysis.

Books


Dr. Cooper is the author of four books and over one hundred journal publications in psychology and psychoanalysis. The first book, “Objects of Hope: Exploring Possibility and Limit in Psychoanalysis” was published by The Analytic Press in 2000. His second book, “A Disturbance in the Field: Essays in Transference-Countertransference” was published by Routledge Press in 2010. His third book, “The Analyst’s Experience of the Depressive Position: The Melancholic Errand of Psychoanalysis” was published by Routledge Press in 2016. His forthcoming book, “Playing and Becoming in Psychoanalysis” will be published by Routledge Press in 2022.
